OUR BEER

16-DSC02151_edited.jpg

City Orchard is dedicated to building our community through the offering of authentic and quality products in our tasting room.  We focus on cider but we realize that a tasting room should quench the desires of all.

It is no secret that the founders of City Orchard have a diverse interest in all alcoholic beverages.  Pro or con - that is the truth.  It is also no secret that we love beer.

Our Head Brewer Clay Watson's philosophy is simple  -  make great traditional beers with great ingredients.

Our TANK CAR ORIGIN SERIES pays homage to some of our favorite classic beer styles from around the world.

Why tank car? When you visit City Orchard, you will not be able to miss our most prominent neighbors - trains.  Nestled between two busy Union Pacific and Kansas City Southern Lines, we enjoy trains all day long.  As we watch tank cars pass endlessly by, it is fun to imagine them filled with cold beer!

RULE G

Belgian Ale | 5.8% ABV | 29 IBU

While technically a single, this ale is the more robust cousin of Brass Hat.  Rule G is the regulation prohibiting alcohol consumption while working on the railroad.  So why not taunt the engineers with a toast as they chug by the cidery.  Our pommes frites also taste amazing with this ale.

Ingredients:

  • 2-row pilsner malt with Munich, Biscuit, and Cara malts, light candied sugar

  • Traditional European hops: Hallertauer Hersburcker, US Golding

  • Monastery ale yeast

TIN LIZARD

IPA | 6.8% ABV | 62 IBU

Tin Lizard is an early 20th Century Railroad nickname for a passenger train.  Enjoy this one on our patio as the Amtrak rolls by.  A straightforward, no-nonsense IPA that drinks well on its own or with our burger and and a salad.

Ingredients:

  • Predominantly 2 row pilsner malt; caramel and crystal malts contribute to the deep golden hue

  • Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops render a bright hoppy character

  • American ale yeast

BRASS HAT

Belgian Blonde | 5.8% ABV | 21 IBU

Our most sessionable ale, Brass Hat is a slang term for a railroad official.   This light and porch-quaffable ale is perfect for a Texas hot summer day - not something you would usually associate with a Belgian style beer.  Of course you should have our pommes frites with this ale-with a side of our aioli!

Ingredients:

  • 2-row pilsner malt with Munich, biscuit, and Cara malts, light candied sugar

  • Traditional European hops: Hallertauer Hersburcker, US Golding

  • Monastery ale yeast

COMING SOON!

THROTTLE GOD

Altbier | 5.6% ABV | 44 IBU

Throttle God is BNSF Railroad slang for a locomotive engineer. You are going to want to drive a train while drinking this one!

Head Brewer Clay Watson's trips to Dusseldorf in a past life led to his passion for this lesser known German style ale.  Not technically an ale or a lager, Altbier is fermented as a lager but with top-fermenting ale yeast. You will not be confused when you taste it!
