Due to winter weather conditions, the City Orchard taproom will be closed today for the safety of our staff and guests. We’ll miss pouring cider for you, but we’d much rather see everyone safe, warm, and off icy roads.
We plan to reopen on Wednesday for regular hours. Keep an eye on our website and social channels for any updates.
In the meantime, you can still enjoy a little City Orchard comfort at home with a mug of mulled cider. Below is a simple, cozy recipe you can make on the stove or in a slow cooker using your favorite City Orchard cider. We especially love it with Cherry Red.
Cozy Mulled Cider with Cherry Red
If you have City Orchard cider at home, here’s a simple, cozy mulled cider recipe you can make on the stove or in a slow cooker using Cherry Red.
Ingredients
1 can City Orchard Cherry Red Cider
1 quart fresh, unfiltered apple cider (or cloudy apple juice)
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole cloves
1/2 tablespoon whole allspice berries
1 star anise
1 orange, sliced or peeled
1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
Optional: 2 tablespoons brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey, to taste
Instructions
Combine everything in a potAdd the Cherry Red cider, fresh apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, star anise, orange, and ginger to a medium pot or saucepan.
Gently heat (do not boil)Set the heat to low or medium-low and warm the mixture until it is steaming. Avoid boiling so you do not cook off too much alcohol or mute the flavors.
Simmer and sweeten to tasteLet the mulled cider gently simmer for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and add brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey a little at a time until you reach your desired sweetness.
Strain and serveRemove the whole spices and fruit with a spoon or strain through a fine mesh sieve. Ladle into mugs and serve warm. Garnish with an orange slice or cinnamon stick if you like.
Slow cooker optionAdd all ingredients to a slow cooker, set to low for about 1 hour, then switch to keep warm and serve as needed.
Stay safe, stay warm, and if you make a batch at home, tag us so we can see your mulled cider in the wild. ❄️🍎
